My goal as a designer has been to produce clean, efficient, and versatile designs. I want my work to have meaning and resonate with its audience. I was intrigued by graphic design through my love of sports. I found a design community around the time I was in middle school, which stuck with me throughout high school and college. I was interested in sports team logos, stat graphics, and player designs. Playing sports throughout high school gave me an understanding of the sport, which allowed me to incorporate those aspects into designs. My passion for sports also led to me indulging in sports photography. Being able to take pictures of moments in the sports I love was an enjoyable experience for me, and knowing the game allowed me to know what moments to capture.
I look at the work of Eli Corbett, a graphic designer who works with Yahoo Sports and freelance work. His work is mainly sports-related. It showcases many design elements very effectively. His use of typography in his designs stands out to me.
When I start the design process, I like to think from multiple points of view. I do this so I can better understand the audience’s differing values and communicate effectively with them. I also gain inspiration by looking at works created in different mediums. All of the work that I produce should showcase what I value as a designer. I do that in every work I create, making it unique.
